Storage is getting more compact with time, but the Kingston XS1000 SSD has taken this trend to an extreme. Measuring at just 69.5 x 32.58 x 13.5mm, the external drive is easy to carry in your pocket, even while offering up to 2 terabytes of storage to choose from.
The XS1000 is also a featherweight at 28.7 grams, slightly less than the rather minimal heft of an AA battery. The company itself compares the external SSD to a keychain.
Options
The drive connects via a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection, with read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s. In addition to the 2TB variant (150 euros at the time of publication), there is also a 1TB version (72 euros). As is almost always the case with such capacities, the real capacity is slightly lower because a piece of its flash memory is used for formatting and other functions.
“Our customers are looking for convenient, fast and reliable storage at an affordable price. With the XS1000, they need look no further as we now offer even more options for external storage,” said Liny Cheliyan, Business Manager – Prosumer Flash & SSD at Kingston EMEA. “We designed this drive to be sleek and compact, with dimensions only half the size of a standard SSD. This provides unprecedented mobility, making it the ultimate choice for those looking for an SSD with ease of use and top performance.”
The product comes with a 5-year limited warranty, although the biggest threat for the XS1000 is more likely to be that the drive can easily get lost due to its miniscule size.
